Each age bracket has a cutoff starting on Jan 1st.   A player who turns the U# age (i.e.: if U8, turns 8) on Jan 1st or after is in that division for the season. The U stands for "under". Players who are under the U# age before the cutoff date are considered age appropriate for the playing year (Fall and Spring).

RECREATION FAQ

Question 1: When does the season start/end? 
Answer: Fall season typically starts mid-late August/early September and Spring season starts in March. The Fall season ends before
Thanksgiving and the Spring season ends before Memorial Day. Our Spring Season is starting later this season to ensure we have precautions in place for COVID19.

Question 2: Where do players practice and play games 
Answer: All Recreation levels practice at Churchland Soccer Fields. Recreation players U3-U8 play all games at Churchland Soccer Fields. Recreation players U9-U12 play 4 home games  at Churchland Soccer Fields  and 4 away games at other local soccer fields. 

Question 3: What day/s of the week will my child have practice? 
Answer: The day/s of the week and time of practice is chosen by the volunteer coach, but when you register you can request days for practices.

Question 4: When will I hear from my child's coach? 
Answer: Teams are created/assigned when registration closes. Volunteer coaches are then assigned a team. If we have more teams than volunteers, we have to seek out coaches from the pool of parents assigned.

Question 5: Are uniforms included in the cost of registration for Recreational players? 
Answer: Yes. Uniforms are distributed by your coach at practice or on the day of the first game. 

Question 6: When will the games schedule be posted? 
Answer: The first game's schedule will be posted approximately a week before the season opener. The remaining games schedule will be published a few day later.

Before registering with our new system, please understand the following KEY POINTS that will help you understand common questions through the process.

Our new system will allow you to create an account in our registration system one time, and then any time that you are returning or adding additional players you can log back into your same account to make changes, additions, or make payments.  So while there may be a few more questions the first time, please remember that in the event that you are a returning parent/player then each season after this will be much easier to register.

Key points to understand:

• Primary Contact is the parent of Child/Children you are registering.  This will be your account for future registrations.  To enable our system to send you further details you MUST provide a valid email address that actually works and will deliver to you.
• In section 3, “new participant” is referring to your player.  At this stage you can register multiple players and then in the next step it will allow you to choose what level of play each player will be participating at, as well as payment options for them BEFORE checking out so that you only pay one time, no matter how many children you have playing.
• The only age brackets that will show for eligibility will be those that are age appropriate for your player.  In the event that your player is playing up to the next age bracket - sign them up for their ACTUAL age bracket in the same level of play and then send an email to both the appropriate Commissioner and Director of Coaching with your player's name, level of play, requested team name and age group that you're looking to play up to.  Please understand that ALL play up requests are reviewed / approved on a case by case basis.
  
• The questions AFTER selecting the level of play that will pop up are on a PER PLAYER basis.  So while many people will have the same medical, same emergency contact, or same contact phone – there are others where this may change per player.  You must answer separately for each player.
  
• When you get to the payment page:  You have the option for VISA/MASTERCARD, and MAIL IN CHECK.  Please note that if you use credit card to pay, at the end there is a "processing fee" that is a pass-through charge to cover credit card processing- this fee does not come to the club.  If you do not like the credit card option or the processing fee, you can you choose "Mail In Check" and it will remove the processing fee.  There is also a $3 service fee that is charged for every transaction. This is charged to the account regardless of the payment type, check or credit card. You will be responsible for delivering payment to our PO Box 5096, Portsmouth, VA 23703 or during open signups at the CSL office.
• When you get to the payment page:  Under “Payment Options” you have the option to pay in full or click the button for “Installments” just below the pay in full option.  If you have color on your computer, this is the ONLY GREEN BAR on the whole page.  Please click there and it will give you the installment amounts as well as the dates that they are due.
• At the end before clicking “Submit Order” you must agree to the terms of service.  As well, please note that your credit card statement will show “Blue Sombrero” for the processing of any credit card transaction.
• You will receive auto emails from "BlueSombrero.com" domain for account creation, passwords, and payment processing.  Please allow this domain in any spam filter that you have on your email.
